Description
What’s a Caique? A Caique is a great pet bird that comes in a small package but with all the intelligence and beauty of a larger parrot!
Caiques are extremely colorful birds. They are fairly small solid looking parrots with short square tails. Both species of Caique are generally considered to be 9″ (23cm) in length but some of the subspecies are just a bit larger, such as the Yellow-thighed Caique. They are surprising long lived for a parrot of this size, often reaching 40 years or more.
There are two species of Caiques, containing five subspecies. Both the White-bellied Caique species and the Black-headed Caique species are not only some of the most colorful birds in the parrot family, but are extremely intelligent.
White-belly Caiques: White-Belly Caiques, Pionites leucogaster, have a mostly orange colored head with the lores, sides of the head, and the throat being yellow. The back and wings are green and the breast and belly are creamy-white. The beak is horn colored and the eye is reddish-brown. On juveniles the head is more brownish scattered with black feathers, the beak has gray markings by the base, and the eye is brown.
Black-headed Caiques: Black-headed Caiques Pionites melanocephala have a mostly black head with the cheeks, throat, thighs, and flanks an orange-yellow. They also have an orange band across the hind neck bordered by a few bluish feathers. The back, wings, rump and upper tail are green and the breast and belly are creamy-white. The tip of the tail is yellow. The beak is gray-black and the eyes are orangish-red
SOCIAL BEHAVIORS:
The general demeanor of the Caiques is one of affection and sociability. In the wild the White-bellied Caiques are generally seen in pairs, a family group, or a small flock, while the Black-headed Caiques will be seen in family groups or flocks up to 30 birds. In captivity the Caique is very social, greatly enjoying interacting with other birds and people. But despite this overall affectionate nature some caiques, especially the Black-headed Caiques, can get rather grumpy and nippy and can be aggressive to other birds. They should never be left unsupervised with other pets.
Because of their highly social and active nature, if you do not have a lot of time to devote to your pet, it is recommended that you get a pair so they can have a friend.
Caiques, like other parrots, are most receptive to training in the evening (as well as when you are entering or leaving the room). Each session is best if limited to under 20 minutes with about an hour’s rest in between.
Once your Caique has gotten over its shyness, then you can work on behavior and trick training. Repetition and frequency are the keys here. Almost every parrot can learn at least a few words or sounds. Caiques in particular do better at mimicking environmental sounds rather than human voices.
Exercise and play are important bird activities for the physical well being and psychological health of your parrot. These activities help deter distress and prevent the problems of screeching and feather picking.
Caiques especially enjoy climbing and chewing. Provide your pet with lots of bird activities in the form of large link chains, bird ladders, parrot swings, ropes, parrot toys, and fresh branches for gnawing and chewing. Rotate new bird toys on a regular basis.

I just love my bird. So sweet and loving. And playful. Just couldn’t be better. She is spoiled because she lets me feed her water. And she loves to sit on my shoulder.
Just the most loving bird I ever had.

Bought all our bird babies here. Staff is so helpful and knowledgeable… they made it so easy to get everything set up. They answered all our questions.
20% off all purchases in the first 2 weeks of purchasing the bird. Had to bring him back weekly for weigh in (to make sure his weight loss plateaued). Gave us a chance to pick up some extra bowls, toys, millet, cleaner, etc.
Yes, it’s more expensive than Amazon but you get what you pay for, and you get quality products that you know are SAFE for your little birds.
For one of our previous birds, they helped us when he got sick, and the little bugger pulled through with all her advice. She’s a bird whisperer

Tobi LOVES it here its like he’s on vacation as well lol we always have to have the employees help us get him in his travel cage when we pick him up he doesn’t want to leave. A Perfect store for toy shopping! They have thousands of toys and I’m excited to go back to find new toys! Even has a section of pieces that you can make your own toys with, they’re a little pricey, but definitely worth it if you’re tired of buying the same toys from PetSmart app or online ordering, they even carry my favorite bird food, which is convenient since I always have to order it online. Only thing I noticed is the employees seem to give out some interesting pet advice, so if you’re coming here for advice, I definitely recommend getting a second or third opinion.

After extensive research we decided to get a love bird. I previously went to canoga discount birds and was told they didn’t have any baby lovebirds and that they had two adult ones that were very timid, they didn’t make any effort to suggesting other birds or getting personal info to contact me when they do, so we left a little disappointed.
Fast forward one week, we found these breeders online. The moment we walked in we were welcomed and asked what we were looking for, to my surprise they had one baby love bird that was hand fed and ready to be homed. It took us awhile to make a decision but within that time the employee gave us other options to see, such as conures. They did have other baby love birds that needed one more week before they can be homed.
My son fell in love with the blue love bird that wasn’t just ready. Eventually another employee intervened and said we can purchase that specific one if we promised to come back to have it weighed in a week, which was no trouble at all, after all we just want the bird to be healthy. All three us were so happy, they gave us a lot of information and prepared us to be newly bird parents lol.
Overall, the store was very welcoming and informative.
They gave us so much attention and time for us to bond with the bird even when they were about to close. He was a little bit overpriced, l paid $200 but I understood why, they do make sure the bird has no disease and is given a DNA test so you can know the sex of the bird.
You do get 20% of your 1st purchase which was helpful.
And free grooming services, and one free package of food and some small toys. The only “negative” thing I can say is that I do wish their store to be little bit more open, when you walk in it can be overwhelming and not a lot of space to walk. I would definitely come back for our second pet when we are ready lo!!!!
Almost forgot they let us borrow a carrier cage which I thought was very nice and showed they trusted use to give it back in a week!

My partner and I are going to be first time bird owners.
We drove all around looking for a friendly young cockatiel to adopt.
The Place was one of the farther bird shops from us that we decided to check out (well worth the drive). There was plenty of parking and the shop was easy to find. The inside was clean and well organized and fully stocked. The variety of toys and treats is overwhelming as was the selection of adorable and friendly birds
We got to the shop pretty early around opening time and noticed that the employees were setting up and doing the morning feedings for the baby birds. They were busy but still very welcoming and accommodating and offered to help us with what we were looking for
They had a couple cages of young hand fed cockatiels which was surprising after all the let downs we had from the other shops. They were all so friendly and running up to the cage thinking we were going to feed them, like little raptors The employees offered to let us hold the birds we wanted and see which one we fell in love with.
I was not very familiar with handling birds as much as my partner was and was almost afraid to hold the little babies but the employees were so helpful and gave us tips and advice on how to approach and handle them.
We took a couple out to see which one we got along with and settled on our little Piccolo. All the birds we interacted with were friendly and unafraid of human contact. That was an important quality we wanted our first bird.
Of all the bird shops we went to, these breeders had the highest set price for a cockatiel, $350. WELL WORTH IT THOUGH if you consider the care that goes into rearing these fearless and friendly baby birds, availability of birds, the cleanliness of their facilities, and the helpfulness of their employees. ON TOP OF THAT, they give you a bag of food, some toys, 20% off the first purchase of supplies you get with picking up your birdie, and a lifetime of bird grooming, advice, and care for the birds you purchase there. I wouldn’t buy a bird anywhere else after coming here.
After purchasing Piccolo, the store welcomed us to visit him any time until he was weaned and ready to come home with us. We visited him twice and noticed his growth in that short period of time! The employees were welcoming and remembered us and our ‘tiel.
The owner and employees have made this bird adopting process easy and stress-free XD. They have been helpful and caring, and I can genuinely say that these people love their birds and want the best for them.
We can’t wait to bring out little birdie home with us 🙂

Great store for gifts – and, of course, bird watching accessories. We gave our friends (type who have everything) a bird feeder and they absolutely loved it!
Store manager, was so very helpful and knowledgeable about the types of bird food and how to keep the squirrels out. It’s a fun and lovely shopping experience – not to mention the very best information for enjoying our beautiful avian community. Thank you!
