he Blue and Gold Macaw Ara ararauna is one of the most beautiful large parrots. It is a sweet tempered and affectionate parrot, and has one of the best all around personalities of the large Macaws. This bird makes a great companion for a single person. But it is friendly with everyone, including other birds, when it’s well socialized. Although some Macaws are one-person type birds, the Blue and Gold is right at home in a family type situation as well.
This large parrot is also sometimes called the Blue and Yellow Macaw, or you may come across a larger variant from Bolivia called the Bolivian Blue and Gold Macaw. The Bolivian variety is distinguished by its larger size and its coloring. On all these Macaws the colors are vibrant, but the Bolivian has more of a true blue rather than the teal blue seen in the average Blue and Gold. They all share the same wonderful personality and characteristics.
The Blue and Gold Macaw is very adaptive. Whatever environment they are in, it becomes quite normal for them. If they are around many people, they will accept many people. When well trained and socialized, Blue and Gold Macaws enjoy participating in all sorts of outdoor and public activities with their owners. We’ve seen them attending public festivals on their owners’ arms. One woman regularly took her Macaw with her to Western line dance classes. Another woman would take her Blue and Gold horseback riding with her. There are bird leashes available so you can take your feathered friend wherever you go, and they just adapt. They ride well in a car on a bird car seat.
This is a lively, bouncy bird that loves to play, climb, and interact. They need a couple of hours a day outside a cage to be happy. Blue and Gold Macaws are eager learners. They can be taught a variety of tricks and they are frequently seen in animal behavior acts. They are also one of the best talking Macaws and can learn about 15 to 20 words or expressions. But like all Macaws this parrot has a loud call, and it may be quite vocal at times.
But like all Macaws, they do require good socialization and consistent training to make good pets. They bond very closely with their humans. They are very affectionate, and will want your attention regularly.

After the tragic loss of one of our sweet birds, we began to search for another sweet baby. Scam after scam is what I found. I came across a listing for a cockatoo in GA, I was excited but very cautious. I contacted the breeder (fancy birds aviary) I received a response very quickly via email and exchanged conversation. I was debating what to do when they contacted me back to let me know they had numerous potential individuals sending inquiries for the same bird, they wanted to make sure I was aware to not disappoint me if the bird was sold within that same day. Prior to this point, all conversations were via email. I shared with them my experience with scammers and why I was so cautious to send a deposit. they were very kind and beyond willing to help ease my mind to they were not scammers. they reached out to me over the phone, and they offered to video call me with the bird, I was able to verify their breeders license, anything I asked they were to answer or provide information. After I put in my deposit they didn’t forget about me. they would often send me videos and photos of our bird. The entire process was so smooth. they made us feel like a friend not just another customer. I drove pick up to their aviary to pick up my bird Everything was clean and beautiful. I know all their birds are raised in a “home” environment with lots of love and care. It was obvious that they not only feeds and cares for their birds but also works with them. Our bird was so loving and trained to step up. I would recommend these breeders to anyone seeking to purchase a bird, you will receive a clean, healthy, loving family bird. I truly can’t express enough how happy we have been with the service we received. A void in our family has been filled with the sweetest bird. Thank you, guys, for everything.

After what felt like forever looking for a pet bird companion and multiple different people attempting to scam us, we came across this breeders. We spoke on the phone with and within an hour were in the car heading to pick up our new baby. they were so helpful with offering advice and giving us all the information and clarification we needed to know she was legit. We drove several hours (by choice, as they also offer delivery). They welcomed us into their shop, cared about getting to know us and showed how much they truly do this out of their love and dedication for the birds. We now have a healthy, sweet boy who has stolen our hearts! We will forever be grateful for their compassion and this sweet boy of ours!

My partner and I are going to be first time bird owners.
We drove all around LA looking for a friendly young cockatiel to adopt.
The Perfect Parrot was one of the farther bird shops from us that we decided to check out (well worth the drive). There was plenty of parking and the shop was easy to find. The inside was clean and well organized and fully stocked. The variety of toys and treats is overwhelming as was the selection of adorable and friendly birds
We got to the shop pretty early around opening time and noticed that the employees were setting up and doing the morning feedings for the baby birds. They were busy but still very welcoming and accomadating and offered to help us with what we were looking for
They had a couple cages of young hand fed cockatiels which was surprising after all the let downs we had from the other shops. They were all so friendly and running up to the cage thinking we were gonna feed them, like little raptors The employees offered to let us hold the birds we wanted and see which one we fell in love with.
I was not very familiar with handling birds as much as my partner was and was almost afraid to hold the little babies but the employees were so helpful and gave us tips and advice on how to approach and handle them.
We took a couple out to see which one we got along with and settled on our little Piccolo. All the birds we interacted with were friendly and unafraid of human contact. That was an important quality we wanted our first bird.
Of all the bird shops we went to, the perfect parrot had the highest set price for a cockatiel, $200. WELL WORTH IT THOUGH if you consider the care that goes into rearing these fearless and friendly baby birds, availability of birds, the cleanliness of their facilities, and the helpfulness of their employees. ON TOP OF THAT, they give you a bag of food, some toys, 20% off the first purchase of supplies you get with picking up your birdie, and a lifetime of bird grooming, advice, and care for the birds you purchase there. I wouldn’t buy a bird anywhere else after coming here.
After purchasing Piccolo, the store welcomed us to visit him anytime until he was weaned and ready to come home with us. We visited him twice and noticed his growth in that short period of time! The employees were welcoming and remembered us and our ‘tiel.
The owner and employees have made this bird adopting process easy and stress free XD. They have been helpful and caring and I can genuinely say that these people love their birds and want the best for them.
We can’t wait to bring out little birdie home with us 🙂
